Rome was a progressive place. The city and its people constantly pushed the boundaries of what is achievable by the human race. For all the change and progressiveness that occurred thanks to Rome’s great people, there was one constant. That constant was death. Death waits for no man, not even if that man is Roman(in some cases especially if that man is roman). While the romans loved to immortalize the things they did while theyre alive, they love even more to immortalize them after their death. Wealthy roman citizens of all walks of life would create these masterpieces of sarcophagi telling their life story in pictures. Each Sarcophagi would have a theme depending on the persons achievements or passions. A warriors sarcophagi would depict great battle and the great generals he served under. Although they did use sarcophagi, their bodies were not buried like it is popular to do today. The romans would cremate their bodies and then place the urn inside the sarcophagi to show off their life story. They would also place valuable items and things they hold dear in their sarcophagi as offerings and in the hopes that they would be able to bring it with them.
