Throughout the centuries Rome has grown to great heights becoming a staple in the circle of major European powers. Theres been many reasons for this rise to power but every great cathedral needs a strong foundation. And just like a cathedral Rome too needs a strong foundation. When the Etruscans first began to settle the many hills of Rome they needed a common public space to do business and to socialize. The areas in between the hills, the valleys, became these areas where people would gather. As these Etruscan huts grew into the city of Rome these valleys grew into the Roman forum, a more established area where the Romans would worship, do business, and socialize with their fellow Romans. The biggest problem the romans faced with this construction is that the valleys between the hills were swampy messes filled with snakes and diseases. In order to solve this the romans created a highly effective sewer system that ran under the forum and drained out these swamps making the area much safer to inhabit. This was a crucial part in the life of a roman citizen as it not only allowed them to dispose of their waste safely but also created the foundation for their greatest monuments.
