We had been told to start the day early and we were ready at the breakfast table by 7 Am. After a group picture which was a standard on all days we began our trek around 7.30. We had to go down the hill from Landruk which was quite pleasant upto New bridge where we had to cross the mighty Modishala river through a hanging bridge.
After we crossed New bridge the trek path became quite narrow and uphill. The ascend was steep and walk became very slow even a trickle at times. Thanks to a few breathing exercises and moral support provided by our guides i walked on. The route was losing its greenery and was replaced by rocky pathways and steep stairs.
It was the peak season for trekkers and hence we were greeted by a whole lot of Trekkers and even in that worn out condition a 'Namaste' was a relief from a fellow trekker. It really pushed me to trudge ON. The fateful stairs started after we crossed New bridge and the path was treacherous to say the least. The stairs were uneven without any railing and one wrong step would be fatal due to the steep ascendency on the trek route. the sun was showing all its might that day which hurt our hike even more.
With the last bit of determination i made it to our Lunch Stop at Jignu Thanda, a wonderful plateau in the steep ascendancy pathway. It took almost half an hour to get back my breath. I could not feel my legs nor arms (Arms hurt due to the pressure placed on the trek poles while climbing)

After an hour or so break for lunch we continued our climb, the path was even worse than our forenoon route. After a couple of hours of walk we reached the hill top, Chomrong, our break for the day. I was completely exhausted. I regained a bit of energy after a hot shower but the best part of the stay was a body massage i took at the tea house which was heavenly and relaxed all the pressure points of my body.
My only cursing for the day was against Arjun as I felt I would have easily crossed 6000 stairs instead of the 3000 he had mentioned. nevertheless a tiring day completed and we had reached an altitude of 2200 Mts (7250 feet). The weather was cold but still bearable. Dinner was heavy with Sizzlers and steak to regain the strength.
