We have to be out of the apartment by 11:00am as there are new tenants arriving around 2:00pm. So we get up do some basic clean up chores, take out the empty bottles and garbage etc. Well, John Daniel, the apartment manager, arrives early at 10:45, spends ten minutes making sure we didn't abscond with anything valuable, like a kitchen knife, signs off the paperwork and we head, one at a time, out to the street to wait for our ride. The ride shows up in just a few minutes and we leave for the airport. Normally it takes about one hour, but today, because our flight doesn't leave until 6:50, it only take about 30 minutes. So, here we are at the airport for 6 hours. we laze around have some typical airport food and see how flat we can make our butts.
Get on the plane for the two-hour flight to Dubrovnik, it's only about 75% full, and arrive slightly ahead of time. Go through customs, and retrieve our luggage. Except the handle on my large bag will not extend. Not a good deal as I either have to carry it or walk all stooped over. I finally take off my belt (when in doubt, on how to fix something, always remove a piece of clothing first) loop it through the handle and drag the bag behind me.
Anyway, no great details here. We are met by a guy and he can't take us to where we are staying. He tells us he will not take his car down there and has to drop us off at 10:00 pm in the middle of town and we have to walk for about 1/4 mile. A heated exchange follows...and he drops us off a little way from where we are staying. Pathfinder

Carroll finds our digs on her iPhone and leads us through the ancient streets. The reason we could not be delivered to the hotel (only a one night stay) was because they do not allow cars in the old town.!!! It would have been much easier if he had just said that. We get to the nice hotel, the reception is closed but our keys are on the desks promised. We head upstairs...no elevator and we are on the second floor. I manage to lump my suitcase up, one step at a time. I go back to the two older women I'm traveling with, and they have morphed into two young ladies each with a suitcase. These ladies were sitting outside, saw that Shirley and Carroll were having trouble and carried their bags for them up to our rooms. I gave them 10 Euros...makes up for the cab driver.
We are tired but hungry so we go next door to the restaurant where the two baggage babes work and have a light supper and then hit the hay!!!!
