As soon as the babes are ready we are going out for some coffee au lait and then taking the subway over to some hair stylist for Shirley's color or cut or some damn thing. Then off to see the Tomb of Napoleon. We walk around the corner to some small cafe and have a coffee au lait, croissant and fresh squeezed orange juice...just enough.
We walk to the subway and board the train. Subways are not my most favored mode of transportation, riding in some culvert, through a dark tunnel, armpit to armpit with your closest friend. However, this morning it was not crowded at all and we made it through in a
breeze. Arriving at the stop closest to the salon we disembark into a gale and rain showers. Shirley greets her long lost cutter and Carroll and I go to a bar/pizza place a couple of doors down and wait for the unveiling. After an hour Shirley returns and it looks good and she's happy.
Next stop, lunch then Napoleon's tomb which is housed in a massive domed building. We walk and walk and walk some more and can not find the restaurant Shirley has chosen from a Zagat guide. We can't find the damn place and walk past several other eating establishments that are packed. I finally give up and am ready just to sit down in the middle of the sidewalk when we round a corner and there is a restaurant. We don't think it is the correct one but, it is!!! Lunch is not too good, Thai food, not my favorite, and I have gambas over angel hair pasta and it is really salty. The women both have some type Pho.
We tromp back to the tomb of Napoleon. Its just a huge arching sarcophagus in a hole in the middle of the building.
Also, in the same building is the military history museum. We walk down the aisles and look at the ancient weapons and armor. I made the comment that I could never have been a knight because I knew I would strap all that armor on and then have to take a leak. "I wonder what they did when the urge hit?" Carroll pops and says "They just let fly". I countered with"Do you suppose they rusted? That must be
where Sir Leaks A Lot comes from." And we get back on the subway.
We walked a long way today 5.5 miles and over 14,000 steps plus 14 floors worth of steps.
We have a supper of bread, crackers, cheese etc in the apartment and hit the hay.
