Gary & Helene in Vietnam & Bali

Nyepi
Day of Silence. The Balinese view this day as day '0' (zero). Every street in Bali is quiet - no traffic is allowed, not only cars but also people, who have to stay in their own houses. Light is kept to a minimum or not at all, the radio or TV is turned down and, of course, no one works. Even love making, this ultimate activity of all leisure times, is not supposed to take place, nor even attempted. It's man's way of showing his/her symbolic control over him/herself and the "force" of the World.

Nyepi and a day of silence is a pretty cool. Nyepi is meant to be a day

of self introspection to decide on values, eg humanity, love, patience, kindness, etc. A day to meditate, rest, replenish. I would have loved to go for a walk and experience walking empty streets, and it's silence. Imagine a day where life's crazy hectic stuff, comes to a stop. Wow!

Trapped inside the resort, no hardship endured. We lazed about. I did some laundry and found sun to dry my pieces. The day was filled with the shrill of insect, the sound of the ducks, watching the cows eat in the rice field, and gazing at the night sky.
