Gary comes down with a chill Saturday night and head ache overnight. First time ever, for us, that Gary is too cold in our room, and I'm finding it too warm! He sleeps in pyjamas and an extra blanket.
Next morning Dirk, owner of Villa Sambandati has Budi drive us to Toyo Clinic to see doctor. Gary has Dengue Fever.
We are scheduled to switch Hotels and decide to move immediately before the fever worsens. We are told day 4 & 5 of dengue fever are the most critical.
We get settled into Ubud Village Hotel and Gary rests in bed for the next 8 days, going through the various stages of dengue fever. Once a day we go see the doctor for blood tests, to keep an eye on Gary's platelets, which keep dropping. March 19th we were told that if his platelet count does not increase, Gary will have to be hospitalized. Platelet count begins to increase. Yea! We are both happy.
March 20th: test results are positive! Gary is in the recovery stage of dengue fever, it was text-book dengue of one strain. There are apparently 4 strains and one can only get the one strain, once.
Meet the culprit, spreading Dengue Fever. It is the female, day-time, mosquito. Having said this; with Gary & I in the same Hotel room, if Gary gets bit by ANY mosquito and that mosquito bites me, then I contract the virus! Therefore, any mosquito found in our room, we had to 'kill that bastard-guy!"
The week was spent keeping Gary hydrated & nurished, fever down, comfortable, and pain managed. When he rested & slept, I would wander around town discovering and collecting healing lotions & teas for Gary. Made the best of it.
