Day 45 - High Desert

Bend, Oregon, 08.14.2017

We spent the day at the High Desert Museum. It was #1 on Trip Advisor and we can understand why. It has 135 acres and more than 100,000 square feet of exhibit space. The setting is in a pine forest with walkways that wind their way to exhibits such as a homestead in 1904 with actors who go about their day and answer any questions you may have. We went to a “Raptors of the Desert Sky” show. While various birds whizzed over our heads, their physical characteristics and hunting habits were presented. They also have an area with injured birds, such as bald eagles, living in specially designed habitats because they can no longer fly. We also had a docent walk us through historical settings while giving a lecture on the history of the west. There was an otter exhibit which is always entertaining. We were there for about 4 hours and didn’t see everything. It was an interesting, peaceful visit.

Afterwards we did some food shopping and headed back to camp.
