Day 49 & 50 - Heading East

Brigham City, Utah & Grand Junction, CO, 08.19.2017

We’re combining some travel days until we get to Rocky Mountain National Park. The travel will be long and pretty boring. We’re passing through miles and miles of high desert land … as far as the eye can see.

8.18.17: Today we traveled from Boise, Idaho to Brigham City, Utah. It took around 7 hours. The only highlight was a golf course nestled in the Snake River Canyon near Twin Falls, Idaho. Canyon Springs Golf Course was originally part of the estate of I.B. Perrine (the famous bridge that spans the canyon and overlooks the course bears his name). It was pretty amazing looking down on a golf course cut into rock with the Snake River running beside it.

8.19.17: August 19:
On our way over to eventually settling in at Rocky Mountain National Park, we traveled from the Salt Lake City area down through southeastern Utah toward Colorado. Not much to say, except that the Utah scenery contains lots of big red and beige rocks and terrific long views. Didn’t know that coal mining was such a big deal out here, but it has been part of the Utah history for decades. Stopped at a mining site where hundreds lost their lives in underground explosions.

We stopped in Grand Junction, CO as a short two-night stay over before continuing on the RMNP on Monday. Will tour the town and a national monument tomorrow. Great people and scenery here, but right now a little hot …. mid-90s both two days here.

About the only thing of interest on pulling into the campsite was petting a kid’s pet pig, who was walking beside him on a leash like a dog. He said the pig was affectionate and even smarter than dogs. I wondered what the pig did when people fried bacon in the morning, but decided not to ask. If the pig were that smart, one would think he’d have issues with the aroma of breakfast meat.
