Day 54 - Hittin' the Trail

Rocky Mountains National Park, CO, 08.23.2017

Today was trail day. Started late after coffee and reading in the Airstream. Hit the Bear Lake area at about one in the afternoon and were out until 5. We hit a variety of weather, including hot, cool, wet and dry. The first stop was Bear Lake itself, a simple .5 mile loop around a nice looking lake, then a trail to Alberta Falls, followed by another trail that takes hikers up a total of 625 feet in elevation and passes by three lakes, each more gorgeous than the next. We especially liked the third and last one: Emerald Lake. Huge mountains framed this circular body of water. The photos give you an idea, but as usual, they can’t capture the actual beauty.

A few stats: we hiked 5.9 miles today…not a ton, but lots of elevation: the equivalent of 46 floors. We also turned 8,200 miles since leaving PGH on July 1. That’s driving, not walking.

Tomorrow we plan on spending more time exploring Estes Park, which is a surprisingly large little town with lots of shops and restaurants.
