Place de la Concorde was known for being the execution site during the French Revolution. Louis XVI and Marie- Antoinette were guillotined at this site. There were also over 1,200 other people of the public beheaded at this site. It was built between 1757 and 1779. It was originally given the name of Place de Louis XV.
