The following year the square was renamed to Place de la Revolution. The meaning behind the renaming was peace and harmony. In January 1793, the killing of Louis XVI occurred near the pedestal that now holds the Brest. When I arrived at this site, I was very intimidated. The place where so many people had died in a public atmosphere was disturbing to me. The area was much larger than I expected. A little over 18 acres makes up the largest square in Paris.
