This was the day we really started our Rocky Mountaineer adventure. We followed the Bow River out of Calgary to Kananaskis where I was about to experience my second helicopter ride of this trip. A perfect day weather wise for this adventure. We were lucky that the five of us were able to experience this adventure together in the one helicopter. Not very long, however, long enough for us to experience the remarkable landscape of the Canadian Rockies. Staying in the Banff National Park we then visited the Bow Waterfalls and some Hoodoos. Hoodoos are rock formation that has been created through the natural process of erosion by water and wind. On to a lookout point - called Surprise Corner - where you could get a view of the famous Fairmount Spring Hotel. Lunch in Banff and on to our next venture - the Banff Gondolas. An eight minute ride to the top of Sulphur mountain for a 360-degree view of the Banff townsite and surrounding mountains. Excited to be in the Banff Springs Hotel not just a hotel but a real resort with upmarket shopping and restaurants. I did not get a great view from my room but very comfortable all the same. With another early start next morning the stay was rather short.
