The Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore is the symbol of the city, the city of flowers. It is also known as the Duomo Cathedral. As I look at it from the outside, it is enormous. It looks like a princess castle to me. It set the scene for the Italian renaissance and inspired multiple architects and artists. It was the major church during the renaissance period. This church was built because they wanted to compete against other cities. This resulted in them wanting to build a church big enough that would fit everyone in their city. This goal failed because they were only able to fit less than half of their goal. They wanted to fit 100,000 people, but only fit about 30,000 people. Before walking in, they let me know about the dress code. They require people to attend formally. Clothing that shows skin should not be worn like mini skirts or strapless shirts.I am required to remove my sunglasses, my hat, and sandals. As I walk in, I see everyone taking pictures. I get the smell of stinky feet from some people, but I keep moving along. It is definitely not as big as the Uffizi Gallery, but the work in here is just as amazing. I see the walls surrounded by all these paintings, specifically in the dome. This is called “The Last Judgement.” It is a painting that was begun by Giorgio Vasari and finished by Federico Zuccari. all humanity is judged and the only one who has a say in it is God and Jesus Christ. They are all surrounding God in the image. The fine details on this art piece is extraordinary. The way the painting looks like an allusion because the paintings just keep getting smaller and smaller.
