Basilica di San Lorenzo

The original structure of Basilica di San Lorenzo is one of the oldest in Florence. It was designed by the famous architect, Filippo Brunelleschi. It was built between 1422 and 1470. This structure is located in Piazza San Lorenzo. As I walk around, I see that there are a lot of places to shop. As well, I see the famous “San Lorenzo market.” I keep walking around the church, and I see that it is divided into three distinct areas for visitors to enjoy. They have the Medici Chapels, the church itself, and the Laurentian library. I decide to walk to the Laurentian library and I see that everyone is very quiet here. As well, I notice how the staircase and the reading room were built by

one of the famous Renaissance artists, known as Michaelangelo. The Basilica di San Lorenzo has a very old aesthetic, and it may not be appealing to some people, but there is so much information to learn from it. It is also very beautiful from the inside. I would describe the inside as being very bright, and filled with arches and poles. In each arch that there was, a new painting was demonstrated. I see paintings ranging from artists like Michaelangelo to Donatello. There is a polychrome marble choir loft created by Donatello and his workshop. There is also a painting created by Michaelangelo, it was the Mannerist painting. It was of Mary and Joseph as young normal people. There is also the painting, “The Annunciation and Stories from the Life of St Nicholas.” It was created by Filippo Lippi. You would ask yourself, what is the oldest part of the church? Well it was the old sacristy. It was designed by Brunelleschi in 1419. The outside of this building would best be described as very busy. People were really engaged with shopping around and buying memory objects. The purpose it has was specifically for the Martelli Chapel. Basilica di San Lorenzos is a place I will always remember
