WWII History and Iceland Adventure

Every trip brings along new experiences and lessons. This adventure seems to have provided a few more than others in the past so we thought it would be advantageous to write them down. We no longer want to rely on our memory for such things. Since we have this blog printed into a book as a keepsake, we will have it for reference the next time we venture out into parts unknown.

1) Measure your luggage exactly. A 1 inch mistakes can be costly as we found out.
2) Shampoo and body wash are interchangeable (when necessary.)
3) Shampoo can also be used as laundry detergent, just don't use too much.
4) Try not to book a shared bath. If you have to make sure to ask how many people will be sharing it.
5) Be prepared to pay to use public toilets; have coins at the ready. Because of this, never pass up the opportunity to use a free one.
6) Check local tipping customs ahead of time. It can save you money.
7) Download Google Maps and Google Translate to use off-line. They can be indispensable.
8) Study local driving habits and adjust accordingly.
9) Be prepared for extraordinarily high fuel costs. We thought California was bad...over $8 US in Europe.
10) Do not even try to pronounce words in Icelandic.
11) Showering with water that smells like rotten eggs is not necessarily a bad thing.
12) Try not to fall into the "Crack" in your bed because it is 2 twins pushed together.
13) Pack a collapsible cooler for lunch items while on the road.
14) Expect small bathrooms and even smaller showers.
15) "Are you OK?", means "May I Help You" in Great Brittan.
15) When reserving a car, make sure to request an automatic transmission. Most cars in Europe are manual transmission. Shifting with the left hand while i while driving on the wrong side of the road and going around round-a-bouts clockwise is too distracting.
16) We learned to take Selfies!
