Once again we are getting prepared for another great adventure. As usual we have done a copious amount of planning and research over the past several months which has sort of morphed this trip into one of our greatest adventures ever. When Scott's Uncle Mort passed away last year, shortly after his 100th Birthday, we knew it was time to finally head to England to the Air Base where Morton served as a Tail-Gunner in a B-17 as part of the US Army Air Corps.
In addition to the Base in Ridgewell, England we will be going to the cliffs at Normandy, the trenches in Bastogne, Belgium where Easy Company fought so valiantly, Flanders fields and perhaps most importantly, the Netherlands American Cemetery at Margraten where Scott will represent Uncle Mort and the 381st Bomb Group by laying a wreath during their annual Memorial Day Ceremony. We obviously will be doing a lot of other sight seeing since we have never been to this part of the world. Our total trip will be about a month in England, France, Belgium and the Netherlands with an additional 1 week side trip to Iceland so that I can take photographs.
Now that we are done with travels to see family, weddings and out of town visitors we can concentrate on final preparations and packing. Our last trip to Europe taught us the value of collecting and taking along clothes that we are planning on donating to charity as part of our wardrobe so that we can lighten the load along the way and make room in the luggage for souvenirs. Let the packing begin!!!!
