MY TRAVEL JOURNAL

Once we decided to have a road trip we were thinking of going to Dubrovnik but we decided to go to Budva instead. This did not kept us from going to Dubrovnik for a day trip, not all of us, my father and me.
I also have to say that i have never seen a single episode of game of thrones...just saying.
We started our journey to Dubrovnik at 10 a.m. We thought that we would have been there in about 2 hours...we were wrong. We were stuck in the borders for about 2 hours. It was a low blow because we did not have all the time in te world so we were not very happy about this.
Once we crossed the border we had another hour to Dubrovnik. 2 hours became almost 5. Once we got into Dubrovnik we found a parking and parked the car (big mistake!!!). We firstly decided to go to the cable car. Thankfully the line was not very long and in 10 minutes we were up the mountain. The view was really spectacular. A lot of small islands spreading all along the coastline of Croatia and in the distance you could see the coast of Italy. We also ate at the top in a very nice restaurant. Once the cable car got us down again we went inside the old city of Dubrovnik. The moment we stepped our foot inside the walls i saw stairs going all the down to the city main square. The whole city is build like a big bowl. In the centre of it there is the main square and everything else around it is in higher ground.
We started decending towards the main square of the city. The main square is just amazing. All the buildings have amazing structure and are amazingly beautiful. But everything in Dubrovnik is concentrated around game of thrones. A big part of the series was filmed there so it has gained some popularity. There were a lot of tourists from the US that came to Dubrovnik to see the places of the series. All the souvenir shops had game of thrones souvenirs and stuff related to it. But to be honest i don't think that you have to be a game of thrones fan to go to Dubrovnik. It is an amazing place with an amazing feel to it. It is like you travel back in time. I also got the best Mojito ever in Dubrovnik. Once we started strolling through the narrow streets it reminded a bit of Kotor but with more prestige to it.
One of the best experiences in Dubrovnik is to walk on the city walls...at least that is what i heard...we did not know that they were closing at 7 p.m so we were 10 minutes late and we did not get the chance to walk on them.
After that dissapointment we decided that it was time to head back to the car as we had a long drive back to Budva. Once we reached the car and tried to pay our parking ticket we realised that it cost 50€...for a 5 hour park...after we paid the ticket a local told us that we parked in the city's most expensive parking...yeah...
Besides the long drive and the rip off, Dubrovnik was an amazing experience and i am sure that at some time i am going back to walk on these walls.
