We diceded as a family to have some summer vacation in the Balkan Peninsula. In fact we decided to go to Montenegro, which ment we had a very nice road trip ahead of us.
Our road trip started at 4 a.m. We left Greece after the border control asked us if we carried any weapons or watermelons...i guess they are not allowed in North Macedonia...
North Macedonia was not anything special, but we had a very beautiful sunrise while we were in the country. Due to very big roads we crossed the country in about 3 hours and reached the border to Serbia.
The border control was a bit slow so we were a bit late there but we finally entered Serbia.
The roads all the way to Nis were the same as in North Macedonia, big and well paved. Once we turned left to head towards Montenegro everything changed...it became much more interesting. We went through small serbian villages and towns that seemed to be in another timeline. The roads were pretty narrow and not greatly paved. We went up a mountain and then all the way down again and we had one of the best views. After we went through Novi Pazar, a small Serbian town, we were getting ready to get into Montenegro. We were not ready for what we were going to see...
Once we crossed the border to Montenegro everything changed...we were in some huge mountains, the road was curvy but very well paved and we were speechless. We crossed the best road we have seen. At one point the road was inside the mountain...not a tunnel...it just had a mountain roof and on the other side a huge drop to the river that crossed the mountains. We were really amazed. This scenery went on till we reached Podgorica which is the capital of Montenegro. Podgorica is nothing special. It seemed like a very boring city. After we crossed Skadar Lake which is a national Park we were really close to our destination, a summer destination called Budva, but we were still in really high altitude...and then we saw a sheer drop in front of us...i have never seen such a decenting road. It was breathtaking going down that road...and frightening at the same time. Especially for my Brother who is afraid of heights. He shitted his pants.
After all we reached Budva at 5 p.m. It was my first experience in a road trip and i loved it...the diversity of the scenery was amazing and something i was not expecting and i also like driving so i really loved it.
