Sue and Mike to UK & Munich

A slow start to a sunny morning followed by a visit to Edeka the local supermarket and then a coffee. We managed the food shopping okay…Mike has a brilliant translation app on his phone now - thank you Michaela - so working out vocabulary is easier. We can walk to the shops easily. Another nice coffee and maybe a nice apple strudel cake was consumed…memory is hazy…not!!!

Caught our dear tram number 19 to the museum and then spent hours touring the treasury - the palace and the theatre. We had no idea of the vastness and the magnificence of all of these places. The jewels, the ornaments, the furniture, the ornate rooms…how much does a person really need??? Such opulence and wealth but not

Residenz Museum…oh my goodness!

München

Such opulence and wealth but not

mention of the staff that kept it all running. So incredibly sad that so much was bombed in WW11…such destruction is really criminal. We did find the longer tour went to much more ornate rooms that had been spared from the bombings and we could really tell the difference to the restored areas. They have done an incredible restoration job though! We really liked the theatre too. So ornate and a lovely size…only for the wealthy though.

After about 4 hours of seeing the museum we needed food and drink so went back to the Residenz Palace Christmas market stalls and then went in search of the Steiff teddy bear shop. Finally found it and decided not to take out another mortgage on a teddy. They were lovely and the baby clothes incredible…not this time though! We were definitely in the high end merch area. Found a gorgeous cafe called Maelu and enjoyed a sandwich, swan torte and a much needed cup of tea…took out a small mortgage to pay for it all, but it was delicious and the cafe very nice. We then realised we had no bread so Mike bought a stollen at the same cafe…I will not reveal the exorbitant price he paid and he said when he came out of the shop…with the nice carry bag…that we were to eat it slowly and saviour every bite!!! Okay, noted!!

Home on the terrific trams and a quiet night in with a cuppa and a small delicate piece of stollen!
