Sue and Mike to UK & Munich

Well refreshed after a 9 hour sleep in a very comfy bed we set off to meet Sean and Michaela for a coffee at The Bla…great coffee served by an Irishman and we may have also been tempted by cake and pastries!! Getting trams here is so easy and 2 stops are near Fred’s flat. Sunny and cold this morning but as we are well rugged up it was all fine. We had a short walk to the cafe crossing a canal and then we walked to the Eisbach River Wave to see the surfers!

Not Manly Beach but seeing cyclists with a surfboard on the side just like at home was a bit weird! Loved the crazy surfers who were very skilful. The river was running high and fast after all the snow melt and it was amazing to see the guys throw their board into the river, only 40cm deep, jump on and ride the waves for a bit and then let the next guy have a turn. Lots of people were watching. No wonder - it took some skill to ride the fast waves and it was fffrrreeezzzzing!

We walked to the beautiful Englischer Garten and we were so lucky as the sun was shining, no wind and the walk was lovely. We saw the Pagoda, the band stand where snow had been deep only 2 weeks ago. I can see why the garden is so popular, it was quiet and beautiful. We saw 2 swans being fed and then the crazy curling type game played on the smooth bowling lanes. Michaela is going to book us a game later this week. Looks fun!!! I love watching curling in the Winter Olympics…it is just a crazy sport.

The Deutsches Museum was open as we walked past so we visited the shop and made a few purchases…great things to buy there!

We walked to the old ARRI offices, saw the theatre and then moved onto the Zeitgeist restaurant for a nice lunch of pumpkin soup, schnitzel or a burger…depending on what each of us chose…you guess which food went to the 4 of us. I also had a lovely warm lemon drink…delicious.

After lunch we left Sean and Michaela to walk to Odeonplatz and catch the tram back to Fred’s as it was only about 5 stops away. We did get side tracked on the way to the tram as we saw the old palace grounds and the war memorial. Home for a catch up type afternoon after a lovely day out.
