Visit Blatna Castle

When you are in Bohemia with the family, a visit to a castle is a must. The choice of castles is large. Blatna Castle is a castle that is very nice for families. We start our visit with a walk through the large castle park. The first animals we spot are alpacas. With their cute faces they stare at us curiously.

Suddenly we are startled by a loud scream. The peacocks demand attention. Blue and white peacocks are rummaging around. They are beautiful to see. When we walk further through the castle park we see deer walking. In the summer you can buy special food for these animals. Now they still have antlers and feeding is not allowed. It should not spoil the fun, because it is nice to watch the grazing deer. In total there are 60 of them walking around in the park.

When you are at Blatna Castle in the summer, it is also possible to have a picnic in the park. The castle provides the blankets. A picnic basket can be purchased or you can bring your own lunch. It is also fun to visit a Lego Exhibition in the summer. In the summer of 2023, the theme is Harry Potter. Children can also build themselves with the Lego.

For the various activities the castle charges a small fee. For example, we could enter the park for €2 per person.

Rent a bike in České Budějovice

If you are staying in the area of České Budějovice , you can rent bikes there. Just a twenty minute bike ride from the city is a great recreation area and adrenaline park called Hluboká nad Vltavou. The same name as the nearby castle. As we approach, I see bouncy castles, playground equipment, table tennis tables, sports fields and a climbing course. And lots of kids having fun.

The park is free to visit, except for the climbing course and midget golf. While the children are playing, the parents can relax at one of the bars. If the children still have some energy after playing, you can cycle on to the fairytale castle Hluboká nad Vltavou.

Go rafting or canoeing in Český Krumlov

If you are in Český Krumlov with your family, take a look at the town from the water. You can rent a canoe at various locations or opt for a new activity: the wooden raft. On this wooden raft you can even go down small waterfalls! For those who like to stay on the water for a longer period of time, it is recommended to take a multi-day canoe trip. Inge tour offers these trips, for example. You can choose trips of different numbers of days. Along the way you will stay in hiker's huts or small accommodations.

Push your limits on the via ferrata

Do you like an adrenaline rush? Then contact Ferrata Havranka and book a tour with her. Upon arrival, we hoist ourselves into a climbing harness and are provided with the necessary climbing attributes. Hanna explains to us how to walk the via ferrata. We start with a short route, which is perfect for children. We click our carabiners onto the steel cable and climb and walk upwards. It goes so well that we are also allowed to go on the more difficult route. Daredevils can also go up here.

This route is a lot tougher, but I also think it is much cooler. At the end of the route is the bridge. Here we walk over a steel cable to the other side, where we enjoy the view over Český Krumlov. If the children want even more excitement, take them to the mountain Klet, about a ten-minute drive from Český Krumlov. Here you can walk up in an hour or you can take the cable car. On the mountain, scooters are waiting for you, with which you can then race down the mountain.

Picnic in the castle garden of chateau Jemniště

Picnicking with the kids. I love it. We settle down for the picnic in the castle gardens of Chateau Jemniště . When the hostess opens the gate for us, I immediately feel the magic of this place. We admire the castle and listen to the splashing of the water at the fountain. Then we pick up our picnic basket and find a nice spot in the garden where we enjoy a delicious lunch.

Sleep at a small-scale campsite

In Bohemia there are many nice, small campsites where there is still enough to do for children. We slept in wooden pods of Srubový Kemp Zvíkov Village. When we arrive the pods are lovely in the sun and the front doors can be opened immediately. The pod overlooks the natural swimming pool. In addition, a nice beach to play football. The campsite also offers space for a small number of tents, campers or caravans.

For larger groups there are wooden houses with verandas for 8, 10 or 15 people. I walk around the grounds and am immediately happy about the campfire places that we can use. Great for marshmallows tonight. But before that, walk from the campsite to the Zvikov castle , which is only a fifteen minute walk from the campsite.
