My diary

In October we visited The Louvre for the first time with the group. It was really cool experiencing the different pieces of art that represented the past history of France. There were so many distinct paintings and sculptures that I found myself trying to catch one more glimpse of them before we moved on to another. A handful of us stuck with Jeff who is very knowledgeable in art history. He always has great facts to add as we walk through museums or walk by places in Paris. One of my favorite pieces I saw that day was the Delacroix which symbolized the events of the French Revolution. I really enjoyed the piece because of the different elements captured within the painting. The painting bravely shows Liberty walking upon men who have died and have fallen throughout the battle. The men surrounding Liberty are from different social classes all passionately fighting for the same end goal. Then there is Liberty waving the French Flag and leading the people amidst the chaos. The painting is so well done and thought out. I really enjoyed seeing the painting in person. For me at least, I loved seeing it as though Liberty was the brave calm in the center of the storm. She had bravery and hope and was not afraid to continue leading the people on. There was a very interesting contrast and depth. It was beautiful to see in person.
