Travelling through Costa Rica and looking for a small and quiet hotel to stay?
Around 30 minutes of the touristic place Samara on the pacific coast of Costa Rica, there is a little hotel called; Carao Project at Playa Camaronal, located in the Nicoya peninsula.
Although Nicoya peninsula is one of the most popular beach destinations in Costa Rica. Near the Carao Project you still find a coastal strip that has not yet been ruined by project developers. Here you can find one of the most pristine and secluded stretches of beach.
This beach called; Playa Camaronal is where fisherman come to fish and where surfers come to enjoy the waves. The Carao Project is also providing the beach with almond trees which create a natural shade for the people that prefer to relax on the beach.
The Carao Project started five years ago by a 25 year old; Roberto, a Costa Rican who is originally from the capital San Jose.
The project started as a thesis for Roberto’s master degree (Sustainable Tourism Management). After graduating he started to build what he had designed. Every little detail is carefully though through and after 5 years there are six handmade lodges that are available for visitors. They use hydropower to become climate-neutral and use this to provide hot water in the cottages. They grow their own fruit and vegetables which are used for the kitchen.
Near the restaurant there is a little saltwater pool, so that they don’t have to use chlorine which is toxic for the skin but also for the microorganisms surrounding the pool.
This place a the perfect place to connect with nature, yourself and sustainable living. Feeling like a little party? The bar has beers and cocktails for you to enjoy. Sometimes they even give little parties in a treehouse that was handmade in a way that it not harmful for the tree.
