My diary

In 1,5 week we from ¡Pura Terra! will start our fieldtrip to Costa Rica. But before giving you all insights during the trip, we would like to take the time to introduce our team and tell you all about the trip we are about to make.

We are six ambitious ladies who are very interested in traveling responsibly and are eager to forward our vision to other travelers. Our names are Dione, Iris, Itzel, Relinde, Samantha and Zoé. We are in our early 20s and study Tourism Management. If you follow our Facebook page, you will see posts in the upcoming weeks where we introduce each one of us separately, so you really get to know us.

Our trip will last 2,5 weeks and not only will we enjoy the beautiful nature of Costa Rica, we will also do research so we can make the fieldtrip we are doing more sustainable. We will start the field trip in San José on December 3rd, where we will stay two nights in a hostel called Finca Escalante. On December 4th we will go to Ecole Travel’s office, who arranged the trip for us and we will gain information on the trip. Later in the afternoon we will do a guided city tour along the main attractions of San José. The next day we will travel to Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí and there we will go rafting over the Sarapiquí river, super exciting! There we will sleep at Ara Ambigua hotel and the next morning we will get a presentation by a representative of the Tirimbina Reserve. Later that day we will have chocolate tour at this reserve, where we will learn about cacao! We will also get a presentation of a rep from the Ara Ambigua hotel and its sustainable policies.

Then on December 7th, we will go to Juanilama, where we will make a boat trip over the river Frío. We hope to see some wildlife there, such as monkeys, caimans, bats and birds! We will also get a typical soda, which is awesome because we are all about the local stuff. In Juanilama we will meet our host families, where we will stay for a few nights. It is so nice to spend your time with a local family there and get to know a different culture in such a way. In Juanilama we will go on a guided hike through a local reserve where we will go for a swim in a waterfall. We will also go to La Fortuna and do a hike here to the hanging bridges. Let’s hope no one has a fear of heights!

We will travel to Tenorio and we will receive some more info on sustainability projects, such as the Heliconias Lodge. We will go to the National Park there to visit its waterfall. The day after we will go to Rincón de la Vieja, where we will visit the Las Pumas wildlife rescue center. Yay! We will sleep at the Buena Vista lodge. Then we’ll go for some drinks at the sunset bar. The day after we have a day off, but we will have dinner in the Spa of Buena Vista Lodge. On December 15th we will travel to Playa Carillo, which is near a remote beach at the Pacific Ocean. On the next day we will travel to Samara, which is also located to the beach and we will stay at hotel Giada. We have some optional excursions, but are not sure yet which one to pick. On December 18th we will head back to San José and on the road we will stop at a famous bridge where there are a lot of giant crocodiles. Then we have a few days left in San José before we go home again.

We are all really looking forward to this trip and hope that now you have a bit of an idea, that you are too! We will give you a heads up on how we are doing and how we are experiencing all these cool activities.

Talk to you soon! And don’t forget: The future is important, so are your choices.
