Europe

Finally we slept through the night! Woke up at a reasonable hour - 8am and started our adventure exploring around our hotel in Buda. The sweeping panoramas from this hillside were spectacular. We photographed Matthias Church and Buda Castle as we wandering down the hillside to Freedom Bridge and over the river to the Great Market Hall in Pest.

After grabbing a nibble at the market we walked to the Dohany Street Synagogue - the largest synagogue in Europe and second largest in the world. Beautiful Moorish Revival style architecture, this synagogue is a spectacular house of prayer but is also a memorial to the thousands who died in the Jewish ghetto that was here during the winter 1944-1945 are buried in the synagogue's courtyard. Incredibly moving.

Our afternoon was spent at the thermal bathes at the Gellert Hotel. Jumping from very hot, to semi hot, to steam room, to outdoor pool and then repeating the sequence. And dinner was enjoyed at a pub while watching Brazil defeat Mexico in another World Cup match.
