Roman Empire

The Pax Romana is known for being a peaceful time for The Roman Empire and during those peaceful times, there was a time of temples being rebuilt and the Romans focusing more on religion. During the civil wars, there were many temples destroyed and when the first emperor Augustus Caesar came into power he believed that there was an urgent need to reawaken the importance of religion. Augustus Caesar wanted there to be renewal and repair of numerous temples across his empire, and initiated projects to build many more. He worked towards renewing the trust of people in the traditional gods to revive the spirit of Rome. Augustan era also saw the return of many of the old, popular festivals. A temple built during the Pax Romana is called the Temple of Peace (also known as The Forum of Vespasian). Although Augustus Caesar was important in bringing temples back, the Temple of Peace was built under Emperor Vespasian. It is a big temple connected to a library and has a garden and a big monument to show peace and prosperity. It was built with marble and It is also shown to celebrate the end of the wars of succession within the Roman Empire. Alongside that, another monument built during the Pax Romana was The Pantheon. A big dome-like temple built for Roman gods but the name Pantheon in greek means for "all the gods". The walls and floors of the Pantheon are built with marble and gilt and the dome is massive. The emperor would be at The Pantheon to give public appearances and the court was sometimes held there. These two monuments are a few of many buildings that were built during the Pax Romana and shows that architecture is on an uprise for the people of The Roman Empire
