We started early by 8 am for Leh after having breakfast in hotel. There are lot of spots to visit on the kargil to Leh route. The driver miss- communicated us that he will leave us at Leh hotel and the local Leh travel bus will take us back again to those spots. On the way to Leh we saw places like Moonland, Lamayuru monastery however we didn’t stop there. We did stop at the sangam of Indus and Zanskar river which was nice. Indus water is bit muddy as compared to Zanskar river which has clear water and also it flows from Pakistan to India. We went down to the river and spend some time playing with the chilled waters of the river and taking pictures. After which we continued our journey towards Leh and saw spots like Magentic hill, Gurudwara, Hall of fame etc however didn’t stopped there and reached Leh by 1 pm.
Upon checking in Arya hotel which was our base hotel for Leh for 4 days we talked to hotel manager who was also the tour co-ordinator for us, He informed us that the driver was supposed to cover all the spots in the kargil-Leh route. Our travel manager added missing spots for the next day’s LEH tour itinerary. We had 4 rooms for 3 people each. The road to the hotel was quiet thin and getting the traveller bus into the hotel gate was a challenge for the drivers.
After freshen up we decided to go and have lunch in the market area since it was just 5-7 mins walk to the market area. However everyone was started to get the high attitude sickness and walking a minutes was causing us to be breath less. Since Namita was not feeling well we ordered some food for her from the hotel. We went to restaurant name “La Terrasse” which was an open terrace which seems to have good Indian and western food. We had a good meal there and everyone enjoyed the food. Myself and Santosh wanted to rent a bike for next day’s tour so we booked one bike for Rs1300. It was a Bullet classic bike which got delivered to us a night. However the bike was old one and didn’t had an electric start so we asked the guy to change the bike for a new one and paid Rs 1400 for the same. We had a dinner in the hotel in the night and went to sleep to be ready for next day tour and getting adjusted to the high altitude.
:Fun note: We had some family staying in hotel from Andhra Pradesh and for some reason everyone was wearing a Baniyan over jeans pant and asking to much questions so we named them the “Baniyan Gang”.
