Leh diary

After breakfast (puri, poha, egg etc) we started the journey with driver Jitu Bhai for our Leh trip .We also got the new bike so myself and Santosh went to fill up petrol however the petrol pump is out of city and takes a while to reach there at least 2-3 KM away from market. After filling petrol we went back to the hotel to join other guys and start our journey. I took the bike first and Santosh was the pillion and we drove to our first stop Shey palace. The place is good, one needs to walk upstairs for 10 mintues or so to reach the monestray and palace. We took good pictures there and view was good. After that there is a small pond below were we feed some biscuits to the fish. After this we started our journey towards Hemis monastery which is located on top a small hill so the road journey on a bike is amazing. There is a museum in the monastery which is good and as lot of art facts about Leh and Tibet history. We also noticed that “kumbh Mela of the Himalays” was supposed to happen later in the month in Hemis monastery. This kumbh Mela happens every 12 years. There is an entrance fees of Rs 50 to visit the Monastery.

The road from Leh city towards kargil is great with best road condition. The bike ride was the best I had I can say. We stopped at a small dhaba for quick lunch and had maggi and other stuff. We then visited Magnetic Hill, which is said to pose magnetic properties and when there is a board in the road were we can put car in neutral gear and the car slows starts to drift forward. After this we reached sangam of Zanskar and Sindhu river which was good. The river rafting course ends there and we saw got of tube boats getting carried over in Jeep. After this we went to Pattharsahib Gurudwara which was good as it is maintained by Army and we got tea and shev snacks as it was evening time. After this visit we started our journey to visit Hall of Fame Museum maintained by army, where people also get to see the flag down ceremony in the evening. However as we were reaching the gate of the Hall of fame our vehicle engine got hot and smoke was coming out of it. The driver started to check and we were kind of stuck. Since namita was not feeling well so I took her to S.N.M government hospital, there one has to pay Rs5 to get you name register for the doctor visit. Rest of the folks went back to hotel as the driver drove the traveller at a very slow pace of 10 K.M/hour.
