After breakfast we started our journey to Nubra Valley (Diskit town) which is quiet far from the Leh city and we had to travel through Khardungla pass which is at 18380 feet above sea level. Since the oxygen level at Khardungla pass is very low we had took oxygen cylinders with us in case we feel uneasy. The roads are pretty small and at many places the small stream of rivers are flowing on road. We saw snow walls along the highway mountain walls. Everyone started to feel slight headache and we were using Camphor ball (Kapoor Bhai as someone named it) to feel better. Mr.Santosh was our tour Doctor (compounder) who had Camphor, Owa seeds and every other medicine you name it. We opened one bottle of oxygen cylinder as namita was feeling a bit uneasy and later everyone tried some oxygen for fun.
Upon reaching Khardungla top we all ventured out, it was very cold should be between 5-8 degree Celsius with strong wind it was hard to stay out for long. There are couple of café’s on the top were you can have Maggi, Thukpa, kawa, tea etc. We had maggi and tea which was good in the cold weather. After taking some good snaps to went ahead on our journey and had a lunch in small dhabba which was like dal rice, Maggi, chow Mein etc.
We reached Nubra valley Dessert by evening 4 pm. It is a cold dessert and the view is just amazing. We took the famous Double hump camel ride which cost Rs250 per person it’s a good 15 Minutes ride over the grey dessert sand. Since namita first didn’t wanted to come we didn’t took her ticket however later she got excited and decided to come and got the ride for free as the camel guy didn’t ask for her ticket. As we completed the ride we had a quick break for tea and biscuits at the only café there and then spend some time in the small water stream. Later on strong wind started to blow along some rains and it was sand flowing along in the winds. It was a nice atmosphere with sand flowing over the sand dunes. We also saw 2 rainbows at the same time which was a great experience. After this we started our journey towards the hotel name “LOTUS Resort” which was just 15-20 minutes away from the dessert. There are lot of hotels over there which provides tent facility as well.
The rooms were good along with fireplace in the room if needed. It also had a natural swimming pool which was basically the river water flowing in the pool. All boys started to play volleyball. There were some old ladies who were giving traditional dress for girls and boys on rent to take pictures for Rs100. All girls took this opportunity to take pictures in traditional dress. Since the hotel was only serving veg we order chicken dish as we had plans for drinks. We ordered one bottle of Rum from the hotel. The cost of drinks were shared by those who were drinking. The hotel had apricot tree and we noticed that there were lot of apricot trees around that place. After dinner everyone went to sleep.
