John Hallam's World Travels : Australia I (2015)

After a insignificant time in Rainbow Beach I was almost praying that Surfers Paradise would be a complete contrast to this and I would have an amazing time. When arriving I was rather sceptical, as it looked just like a smaller version of Sydney. It reminded me of Brighton in England with its coastal beauty but tourist designed esplanade.

Unlike Rainbow Beach where I made no real effort of talking to people, I decided to really push myself this weekend. I ended up chatting to a group of 8 people who were playing pool and from that ended up going on a night out with them all which was actually a very good night indeed. We played pool for drinks and normally would have cleared up but have recently lost all desire to play pool and be good at it - so that meant a lot of drinking.

Surfers paradise was actually a very good place for clubbing and it's the first time in a long time that I have actually let my hair down. After a heavy night on the town I went back and prepared for the next morning and a Goon Hangover! Actually it wasn't all that bad, but I decided to spend the day chilling out and as they had iMacs decided to back up most of my files to Dropbox and back everything up. Boring, but for me it was very productive indeed.

In the evening I got chatting to a new group of people as last night's group had all gone. We spent hours chatting away and from chatting then came drinking. Although it was a Sunday we decided to get drunk. In all of Australia, this was one of my best nights out because it was so spontaneous and random! We never quite made it to the club, but we were doing everything from drinking games, human pyramids to running around and changing every single iMac desktop in the vicinity (you had to be there).

After waking up to yet another goon hangover, the group of us decided to make the most of our last day together and went to the beach. It was funny enough my first time to the beach in three days! It was a lovely walk and I'm not sure where the energy came from but I decided we would all do handstands and crazy jumps. If I had a dollar for every time someone called me crazy I would be a rich man! After an amazing day I said goodbye to everyone I met at Surfers and headed on my way - then almost as if someone in the heavens wanted me to suffer for my amazing weekend I felt so ill. To the point where the Greyhound driver actually pulled over and was worried I was about to have a heart attack. Thankfully I didn't but felt so ill as I arrived into Coffs Harbour.
