John Hallam's World Travels : Australia I (2015)

So, with my recent destinations being analysed like a rollercoaster, after an amazing time in Surfers Paradise I was expecting Coffs Harbour to be a downfall. Well this is where I would like to think that my luck is improving ever so slightly, as Coffs Harbour proved to be a destination that could change my life forever.

The hostel was amazing! Free Kayaks, Paddle boards and Free Excursions. The staff were all amazingly friendly and they had pool tournaments and table tennis. I decided to try my hand at paddle boarding on the creek which was amazing fun. In the river were Stingrays and all sorts of fish - one couldn't help but think though that something more sinister like a crocodile could be roaming the waters!

The hostel got better and better, and for me the best thing was that even though I was in a dorm of 6 beds, I had a completely private room on the first evening. It was amazing because I haven't had a chance to sit down, relax and go through all my thoughts, feelings and future decisions in peace since Innisfail. So after an emotional evening on my own, I was looking forward to the following night of drinking and activities.

After an amazing day at one of the beautiful lookout points, in which we clambered all over the rocks and got some amazing photos it was then to the sunset lookout. Six of us went to Mutton Bird island to watch the sun go down, and we even saw Whales in the distance splashing around in the sea! What an amazing place to see the sun go down and what better way to celebrate than with some drinking games! I taught the girls the Word Association game and drink while you think. So let's just say when it got to 18:00 we were all quite drunk.

The rest of the evening was just as good and consisted of more drinking games, a killer pool competition and cards. As per standard I entered Killer Pool knowing it was my favourite game. It was funny to let two of the guys walk around head high as though they were going to win. I just sat in silence not saying much and every shot just stepped up and potted. Before I knew it I was in the final with another British guy, Matt so we decided to settle it in an actual game of pool! I won by sinking the final ball on the table to the annoyance of Matt!

So Coffs Harbour could be life changing for one reason. I applied for a job to work here for 4 months following a quick return trip to England to sort through my life. The boss really liked me and said I would make a great member of the team, but she had more interviews. At the moment my life is in the hands of fate and the gods, so whatever happens, happens, however it's a great chance to maybe start all over again but we shall see.
