Canada, Alaska, North America, Mexico, Bahamas, Spain 2023

ANA flight was great. We appreciated that this flight to Vancouver was shorter than going to Europe. The business class cabin on both legs was comfortable, not a spacious as on Emirates planes. The food however we could not fault, both of us opting for ‘Japanese’ cuisine rather than the English option.

I managed to sleep four hours on the Vancouver leg which must have been beneficial. Phil only managed a ‘cat nap’. August 1st certainly was the longest day we have spent.

Exploring Vancouver

It was midday the first August when we left Sydney and following nine hour flight to Tokyo, then two hour transit before Vancouver leg we still managed to arrive at 8pm on the first! It wasn’t yet dark.
Our arranged driver was waiting, she took charge of our luggage and drove us the 35mins to our hotel, right in the ‘swanky’ part of Vancouver.

We love Vancouver. Firstly because it was fine, summer weather. Temperature ranged 24-26° all of the six days we were there. We had a wonderful apartment on the 25th floor, overlooking city and out to the harbour. The amenities were great, fully equipped kitchen, ’American’ size refrigerator, oven, dishwasher, more than our needs but appreciated.

While we were in Vancouver we were only two hours from Whistler by coach so we decided to take the opportunity and head up, staying two nights in hotel right in the village. It was just wonderful and despite it being summer it was picturesque. The village is really big, plenty of eateries and shopping. We took chair lift up the mountain and the views were fantastic. We loved Whistler, having heard so much about it over the years. A great excursion.
