Alaska Trip 2019
We spent two days in Valdez. We hated to leave because the fishing was so good but we have no more room in our freezer! The turnoff to go to McCarthy and Kennecott is about 90 miles up the road from Valdez. That was the easy part of the trip. After driving 30 miles on a pretty good road you come to Chitina. Chitina is a very quaint and rustic little town. The next 60 miles was all gravel to McCarthy. The road followed the old Kennecott mine railroad bed. The road ended at the river and you had to walk the last mile into the town. Well worth the extra effort!!
