Going to the most Southern point of my trip

Well I have experienced the Argentinian inquisition at 5 am in the morning. For 1 hour they were making noise ‘alsof the gepensioneerde bond’ was ready to go on their first school trip. I must admit I slept sooooo poorly afterwards. And that on the longest day of the year in the Southern hemisphere, 21/12/2019. The sun will be up until very late, especially in the Souther island (if the clouds allow it to shine through). Today I will make my way to my most Southern city of my New Zealand travel, Te Anau. This city (or I must rather say a larger village) is once again located next to a lake (I swear them New Zealanders like their lakes). After yesterday emotional event, driving for 4 hours in the car is not that fun. I do miss my travelbuddy on these occasions. Luckily some good music and podcasts help me to distract and the Southern scenic route makes way to Te Anau.

Today will be a quiet day before I start my 60 km 3 day hike of the Keppler track. I my dorm, I meet one of my 3 other roommates. This Welsh dude, 28, has been through some rough times as well. After a stupid scratch on his eyes, it would not heal; the doctors told him that he has a genetic disposition that prevents new corona layers from attaching. He currently has eye damage, constant pain in his eye and need to use eye drops regularly. We share stories, and conclude that life just is not fair. Talking is important, that’s why I am writing my story down as much as possible in order for me to give it all a place. This reminds me of the song from Chet faker, talk is cheap (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aP_-P_BS6KY), yet very helpful. I prepare couscous with feta cheese and a lots and lots of vegetables. These carbohydrates and vitamins should help me for day 1 of the hike! And ofcourse some sleep!

Until later,

Steven
