My diary

Dear Diary
today we woke up early and got the boat that is going to take us to Nelson. Nelson is the top of the south island which is why we are stopping here. the ferry across cooks straight was about 1 hour. When we got to nelson and found our hotel. we went to Nelson Lakes National Park - Nelson Lakes National Park is located in the South Island of New Zealand. It was formed in 1956 and covers some 1,020 km². It is centered at two large lakes, Rotoiti and Rotoroa. The park also includes surrounding valleys and mountain ranges. It was really pretty and the scenery was amazing. we took the Moraine Walk. It begins at the junction of State Highway 63 and Lodge Road. It winds around the base of Black Hill, over piles of moraine debris left by the ancient Travers Glacier, and past kettle ponds created when blocks of ice surrounded by glacial gravel melted away. The trees along this walk is predominately mānuka and kānuka. The walk passes through the back of West Bay campground and on to the Buller River. I wanted to have a swim at the river but dad said if we do this walk again we will bring our togs. When we got back to our hotel we had lunch and took our car out to the main town to have a look at the art deco for the afternoon. It was pleasant walk and we passed lots of little shops with funky things in them. For afternoon tea we stopped in a little tea shop and had tiny cakes and hot chocolate. We then carried on walking and at 5 headed back to our hotel for dinner and bed. Now ready to go to bed so goodnight.
