Day 16-
Our plan today was to visit the Black Canyon but we got a little sidetracked on the way. We stopped in the little town of Silverton, CO and ended up spending most of the day there. Silverton is an old silver mine town in the San Juan Mountains, elevation 9, 318 feet. The town has one paved road down the middle and all the side streets are still dirt. The old buildings have been restored into shops, restaurants, and hotels. There are tourists in town but not nearly as many as other places we have been. The locals were very friendly and some even invited Bella into their shops. Just don't plan to visit in the winter because the average snow fall is 200 inches! The only way in and out of the town is Million Dollar Highway (named this because of the beautiful views) which is a winding mountain road with little guardrails. The views are beautiful and include aspens, melting glaciers, and amazing streams coming out of the mountains. We also saw old mines and Red Mountain. This was one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen!
