6:05pm Fiji Time
After a nights sleep, Api and I woke up and decided that we were going to have an adventure and indeed we did. After a breakfast of Wheat Bix with milk, bread with butter and popo (papaya), Api and I walked to the bus stop to head to Lausori. Api pointed out the agriculture school where Fijian's learned to farm, her old technical school and the orphanage of Suva. When we got off the bus and walked across the new bridge, Api pointed at the old bridge, it was decaying so a new one had to be built. as we walked over the widest river in Fiji, Api and I took a shortcut off the bridge and made our way to the park where a group of people called over to us, Api explained that they were just drunkards, they were insistent on shaking our hands and saying hello and so we walked over for a brief greeting and then said "moce" (goodbye), Api and I decided to leave the park after we smelled some "special" smoke coming from another group of people. After the park, we found our way into town and explored for a bit before getting back on the bus to Suva, we went to the mall food court for some lunch. I wandered around until I found a place selling fish and chips with water. After our break, we got back to our adventure, Api and I got on a bus and a girl with a bird tattoo got on, Api mentioned she had been wanting to get a tattoo for a while but was too scared to do it by herself. I showed her the tattoo shop I had found before coming to Fiji, but it was too expensive. It turned out that Api had a friend who did tattoos nearby so we began making our way to his home. We took the bus back to Nausori and then got lost in a taxi, finally after walking from the taxi for a bit, we found Api's tattooist friend Philli, we followed him back to his house where he and his friend San prepared to tattoo Api and I, we picked out our designs. San drew a manta ray on Api's back and then Philli got to work tattooing it on while San drew a sea turtle on my arm. San pointed out my fair skin while drawing on my arm, I asked f I was the first fair skinned person he had done a tattoo on and he said that I was actually the first he had seen in person. I wasn't surprised by this since I had only seen about 3 other white people since I left the Nadi airport. San and I talked while Api was being tattooed until Philli's hand got tired so San took over and I played with a kitten named Gito and we all listened to music for a few hours. When it was getting closer to my turn to be tattooed, I started getting cold feet, I had looked up the after care of a new tattoo and realized that while in Fiji I wouldn't be able to take care of it properly, I was nervous about telling Api that I wouldn't be able to get a tattoo today because she had only decided to get a tattoo because I was going with her and I felt bad that San had already taken the time to draw on a design. I offered San some change for his time, but he smiled and declined. I felt silly for being so nervous to tell them I had changed my mind because they were all so understanding about it. When San and Philli finished Api's tattoo, we said our goodbyes and headed back to Suva. After our grand adventure, we caught a taxi home and had a snack. Aunty Caroline came in to ask about our day and we all ate popo, bananas and bread with butter while we talked about our day, Aunty Caroline was shocked by Api's tattoo but she did like the design. after our snack, we took a rest in the sitting room and relaxed after our adventurous day. Tomorrow I'm off to Nadi, so I'd better get some rest tonight.
