Last night a cousin of Tua's came by to talk to me, we sat up until really late talking and made plans to walk to Likuliku for some snorkeling today after breakfast. I woke up excited and after waiting a while, I went to find Walu. I went to his stepmom, Laisa's house for some tea and we waited for him to come back from Somosomo. When he got back we got our snorkels and things together and started the walk to Likuliku, which is on the other side of the ridge. it was an awesome hik, I did it barefoot. We walked through mud and creeks, slippery rocks and through thick brush, it was a serious jungle with plant life so thick, it blocked out the sun in certain places. Walu carried everything, our bags, the machete and the water and he did the hike in flip flops. When we got to where the mountain was mostly just rock, we were both slipping all over the place, especially when we got to the downhill part, at one point I slid and almost slid down the mountain, but Walu caught me before I made it too far. We made it to the end of the trail and were both covered in mud and rain, so we rinsed off in the ocean and then Walu climbed a 10 meter coconut tree and we drank the water and meat from the green coconuts. We were at a resort that wasn't open yet, so We were the only ones there besides 2 workers, it was beautiful resort called Mai Sunset. When were finished chatting with the workers, we put on snorkels and got in the water to go spearfishing, Was launched the spear and killed the fish and then handed them to me to string along and hold on to. We caught about 6 fish and then Walu accidentally threw the spear into water that was too deep to retrieve, so we lost the spear and just went snorkelling instead. We saw 2 giant puffer fish, one brown and one yellow, they must have been the size of my head. We saw anemones and shrimp, the reef was beautiful. The tides were changing and the waves were getting stronger so we decided to head back to the beach, we got out of the water and a worker's wife let us rinse off in the staff showers, and then made us both coffee. We chatted while we drank and then said moce and walked back to the trail. this time I got to carry the cane knife. I had little too much fun slicing branches and vines out of my way on the hike up, especially since I kept falling and almost severing my limbs. We stopped at the top for a rest and I sliced this tree stump into pieces, Walau laughed and said I was a real village girl now that I know how to use a cane knife and hiked barefoot. I was really enjoying the giant knife, It' a lot of fun swinging it around, although maybe not too safe. We got back down the mountain and I took a shower while Walu cooked lunch for us. We ate yams and fish with butter bread. After lunch/dinner, we went for a walk down the beach and then went to see Walu's brother, Meli and his wife, Ana and eldest daughter, Litiana. We all drank Kava and sang songs fro hours until it was late, Walu walked me home and we laid down on the deck for a while until I was ready to go to sleep. We said Roaroa (See you tomorrow) and then we both went back to our houses.
