Culinary Tour, Italy & Portugal September-October 2019

Saturday: up and breaksfast at the hotel ...then off to cook pasta with Lina. She is a local housewife who gives cooking lessons. What a delight to see her garden, her home and (of course) to taste her wine!

We began with learning how she made the sauce which we would later use to make the lasagne. THEN: the pasta lesson! We mixed, kneeded, rolled and cut the pasta into the necessary shapes for what we were making. Such fun! And some great new ideas that we did not have in our personal arsenals... We loved every minute with her, and totally enjoyed making pasta, lasagne and then getting the recipe for the wonderful dessert!
Following our cooking (and eating .. and eating!!) we were treated to a walking tour of medieval Guardia Sanframondi. We walked the narrow streets of the old town, and enjoyed visiting a local museum which houses the works of Giovanni Mancini. Interesting modern art housed in an ancient castle. Our tour guide was his son. Behind the door of the museum we saw a broom and we learned about the legend of the witches. (more on that later!) Our tour continued along the narrow streets (and up and down a LOT of steps!) to visit the church Inside the church the reliquary houses the head of a saint. A visit with a local artist in his studio and then the butterfly museum completed the tour. Wow! We stopped at a simple restaurant for a quick dinner and, went back to the church to enjoy hearing the choir practice for a concert, and finally back to LaPampa.
Exhausted again!
