Culinary Tour, Italy & Portugal September-October 2019

We had a fun morning walking around more of this town and doing a bit of shopping. There are some lovely stores, and we truly enjoyed looking and doing a bit of buying. Then: back to La Pampa for a pizza lesson with Dario.

We were well educated on the history of the pizza and the properties of the dough. We learned how to use the yeast and let it rise, etc. etc. Finally ... time to roll out the dough. The first batch became bread and bread sticks. It was like being 4 years old and playing with Playdoh again! The different colors had to do with the seasoning that was worked into the dough.

Next: the pizza. Using our fingers to spread the dough out to the right shape and size; tomato sauce on top; the cheese and some basil or other seasoning. Important info about the heat of the oven and the type of wood that is used for the fire. The trick: figuring out how to transfer that info to my backyard, gas barbque! I think we can do it.

Then, of course, we had to taste each of our pizzas to see how they were different! (another "fat photo" LOL)

After tasting all of our pizzas, we rolled ourselves up to our rooms and got ready to go to the Mushroom Festival (again!) It will not rain tonight, so it will be "happening". The festival is in the town of Cusano Mutri ... "over the hills and thru the vineyards" to get there!

The mushsroom festival was busy and fun. This beautiful neon entry, a couple of bands were playing, and we had a drink at a bar with a very funny and jovial barman. The walk around the medieval streets brought us to the stand with the cheese and mushrooms. Yum!!
We do have to say.... not many mushrooms on display?? Only porcini. We sort of expected stands with many varieties of mushroom... but we think that maybe porcini is the most favored type here. Who knows?
