Despite the late arrival our guide Cesar and the driver were waiting for us and started the exploration of the Moche civilisation, a pre-Inca tribe here at the north of Peru. Visited the Sun and Moon Temples, followed by a brief visit to the El Dragon temple. The Sun and Moon temples were very impressive and whereas I can be cynic when I compare with the aesthetics of Greek classical art the buildings had a purpose and the way a layer was added every time it was genius. ended with a trip to Chan Chan. This is a huge area with nine palaces (only one open to the public) representing the Chimu people, a place to worship and bury the dead.
What I found interest were the two following facts. First the sacrifices only involved men (rather than virgin girls) and secondly being disable was recognised as being a man of God rather than the Spartan way.
