Yesterday we took the 640 meter bridge to Philip Island. The view from the bridge was very impressive. Emma was scared but I told her that it was not dangerous. We parked the van next to an enchanting beach and we threw ourselves into the water because we felt dirty and sweaty after the ride.
The next day we drove to Philip Island Nature Park to see the penguins! Back in France we had heard about the Penguin Parade and we definitely wanted to experience it. We slept until 11 in the morning as we were very tired and we knew that the penguins come ashore at dusk. Emma plugged her ears because the penguins were making a lot of noise but we loved it. I found it a bit too touristy: we met people from all over Europe but I was happy to finally see the penguins.
The following day we went to see the famous Philip Island Grand Prix circuit. The circuit exists since 1928. It hosts car and motorbike races. Emma wasn't very interested in that but I absolutely wanted to see it. On the day of our visit it was quiet but we could see a few motorbikes training. I could have stayed there the whole day but Emma was hungry and we had to go back to the van to eat something. After 3 days on Philip Island we left for Melbourne. We had spent about 100 $ on the island and it was time to earn some money! Emma called a friend in Melbourne, a French girl who was living there. She told us that we could try our luck in a coffee shop where she was also working. We drove to the coffee shop, wearing our best clothes. The manager was very happy to see us because he needed more waiters. He hired us on the spot. We started the following morning at 6 am. I wasn't very happy about that but we had to earn some money. We earned 800 $ in a week. After that we thought we wanted to see a few attractions in Melbourne. We went to the National Gallery. Emma wanted to see the Australian Impressionists. I found it a bit boring but I must say it was interesting. The following day we went to the famous Cricket Ground. We bought tickets for a game. It costed 70 $ but I absolutely wanted to experience the game. The stadium was crowded. It was a great moment!
