A long day of travel for us. We left Toronto at 10:30 PM. Had a bumpy but uneventful 10 hour flight to Istanbul. We were in business class so we had fully reclining seats to try to sleep. Turkish Airlines has flying chefs on board who cook your meal on the plane. Not sure they really cook on board but it was definitely better than the usual airline food.
We arrived at the newly opened Istanbul airport. Quite an impressive structure and facility. I loved all the curved lines.
Our original flight schedule had a reasonable layover in Istanbul, but we got a notification at the last minute that our flight from Istanbul to Amman had been cancelled and we now have a 10 hour layover in Istanbul. Ouch! Thank goodness we have access to the Business class lounge. Not exactly the greatest way to spend Mother's Day! We had hoped to take advantage of some free tours of Istanbul but we arrived to late for them and are too exhausted to try to navigate getting around Istanbul on our own.
Good news is the lounge is pretty cool. Lots of traditional Turkish food options and some private cabanas to rest in. This is a new airport for Istanbul, only open for about a month.
I can’t believe how many flights go out after midnight. The airport is busy with people 24/7 and the shops never close. The lounge seems to slow down from 6 until 9 pm, then it fills up again.
