Donegal, Ireland

Today was a full day. After checking out, we left the B&B to make our way north. Carrie had spent the evening prior looking up some additional places of interest in the area to visit. Even though it is so sparse, everything in Ireland is so close together, you can see lots of things without having to drive very far.

First on the list was a beautiful waterfall that feeds into Glencar Lough. We took a nice walk to take pictures and enjoy the lack of morning rain. I was going to get some coffee at the tea room, but

even though it was 20 minutes past the listed opening time, it was still closed. Things start slow in the morning in this lovely place. I guess when it's still light at 10:15 pm, it must be hard to get going early.

From here, we drove to the burial place of w.b. Yeats. I was able to get my coffee at a nearby tea room, while Carrie added to her souvenir haul.

Back in the car we took a beautiful coastal drive along a gorgeous beach. Since the sun was shining, the colors were A-Mazing. There was also a coastal castle that is apparently owned by some southeast Asian royalty. The previous Lord was blown up in his yacht offshore during The Troubles.

From there we went on a wonderful mountain drive -Gleniff

Horseshoe. Plant me right here, please. Tall peaks, few people, view of the sea...yes, sir! Then, a prehistoric court tomb, and off again.

We stopped at a china workshop we had shopped at our last trip here. The work is exquisite. After picking up a few new additions, we forged on to County Donegal. On the way, we took a side road with some more great coastal scenery.

Right before town, we stopped at a craft village. There was a neat art glass shop, and I got Carrie a pretty necklace. I love buying works from the artisans who made them.

In donegal, I came the closest to being stressed out while driving I have in the entire trip. It is a bustling little town with some traffic choke points along with the usual way-too-narrow streets, with people parking wherever suits them at that moment.

We escaped to find the B&B. Carrie, my navigator, was a bit distracted, and told me where the turn was about 100 feet too late. So, Siri had to recalculate. I was only hoping that didn't mean we would have to drive through a farmer's field to get back on track. Luckily, we got there in one piece. Unfortunately, since we were pretty early, our host wasn't there. So we found where we could park in donegal before the crazy section, and headed back to explore.

Needless to say, more shopping was done, castles were photographed, and more cars were barely avoided while crossing streets. We ended up at a highly rated Indian restaurant for dinner. We got an assortment of dishes so everyone could try them. While a new experience for Pat and Les (and Carrie, to a lesser extent), we all really enjoyed the change of pace.

After we finally made contact with our host, we met some of her charming grandchildren, and got in our rooms. Carrie, Pat, and Les all helped select today's photos, and much giggling was overheard during that process. I'm ready to be finished today. We did a lot, and I spent a lot of time behind the wheel, so I am ready to rest. Good night!
