Bantry, Ireland

Today started with a wonderful breakfast at Bantry House. The buffet spread was amazing, with cheese, fruit, meats, breads, etc. I personally fell in love with these orange-infused scones. It is good that we are only here for a few days, or I might have to go back on severe caloric restrictions.

After breakfast, we drove to Glengarrif to ride a ferry to Garinish Island. This is a beautiful garden that inhabits an island off the coast of the Beara peninsula. We had a nice walk, taking photos, and

enjoying nature. On the way there and back, we passed a bunch of seals warming on rocks - also nice photo ops.

We went back to the B&B to wait out some weather and get ready for the tour of the manor house itself. In the interim, Carrie was feeling very poorly, so we took the opportunity to enjoy some quiet time. I attempted (in vain) to update the journal and Facebook, but we have learned that just because your hotel is an expensive, posh resort does not necessarily mean you will have even decent internet. :) While Carrie was sleeping, Pat and Les toured the manor. They pointed out some important stuff to us later, so we didn't miss everything.

Later in the afternoon, Carrie was feeling better, so we drove down to Bantry to meet Pat and Les for dinner. We ate at a wonderful, tiny restaurant over a nice fish market. There were only a few tables, and

it was obviously family-run. Their specialty was local seafood. In fact, our scallops came right from the bay, 100 yards away. They were delicious! I also had a parsnip-celeriac soup which was divine.

After dinner, we called it a night.
