This weekend we went into the country to the northeast of Madrid. We went to a town called Nuevalos, Spain the town is the home of a former Benedictine Monastery. The name is Monasterio de Piedra the monastery was utilized until 1218 until the Arabs invaded and conquered most of Spain. After that, the monastery sat empty for a long time until it was repurposed for its present-day use. It is a landmark in the northeast of Spain and is the home of a hotel. The monastery is situated next to the Piedra river which has created beautiful gardens and waterfalls. The pictures are of the monastery and its surrounding gardens. I have also included a map so you can see where the city is in relation to Madrid.
