Day 96: Northernmost point

Cape Reinga, 11.15.2019

Today we went on a day tour to Cape Reinga which is the Northernmost point on the north island. On the way we stopped off at a beautiful forest where we did a short walk and some tree hugging. We also had a stop off at a little cafe in a small town, I had a fresh berry smoothie which was very yummy.

Cape Reinga was so beautiful. We were very lucky with the weather, beautiful blue sunny skies and by the time we had hiked up to the lighthouse, we were very warm! From the lighthouse you could see where the Tasman Sea meets the Pacific Ocean which was really cool! Our next activity on the tour was sand boarding in the dunes which was surprisingly fun and exhilarating. The dunes were really steep therefore you picked up a lot of speed on the way down before smashing into the water at the bottom. The bus then took us on a drive along 90 mile beach which allowed us to look at the beautiful waves crazing against the shore.

On the way back to Paihia, we stopped to have some fish and chips while the sun set and we arrived back at the hostel around 6pm. In the evening the hostel put on a BBQ and some drinks.
