Happy Valentines Day.
Last night we’d booked morning session cable car tickets for table mountain.
We’d expected to loose power overnight & awake to no power this morning but it didn’t happen. After breakfast we wondered down to bootleggers for coffee, we had walked past this cafe when we last stayed in Camps Bay but hadn’t gone in. The coffee was great & we returned to the apartment before heading off to table mountain. Richard checked the wait time for the cable car 2 1/2 hours, yikes it was 10.30 & we had to be up the mountain before 1 pm on our tickets.
I didn’t panic, we headed off in the car, it was manic but we did eventually find a parking spot & joined the back of a very very long queue. Pre-booking tickets didn’t save anytime as the queue for tickets was really short & 1 of us could have easily joined each queue. We had to stand in the sun for approximately 1/2 our wait before heading under umbrellas & then a roofed waiting area. We found out quite quickly that actually our tickets were valid for any session for 5 days. It’s always interesting people watching in queues especially for that length of time. I stood with my back to the sun & my ostrich scarf out full length behind me & tided the short side around my shoulders & with my hat on was totally covered. The waiting time was correct & it was just before 1pm we got into the car to go to the top.
The car holds approximately 65 people & there are 2, once inside it rotates approximately 180 degrees during the journey, it was fantastic, after the scramble of getting in & getting a “good spot”. Once we reached the summit we headed to the cafe for an ice cream before heading off on one of the many walking paths. Lots of photos were taken, especially of some birds that on the opposite side to the cafe were swooping over the edge, it was amazing, they were travelling quickly & swooping close to our heads, I have deleted most of my photos but still have a few. They looked like swallows but were bigger than the birds we know. We had a lovely walk around the summit & caught the car back down, luckily the queue was much shorter on our return. We viewed our photo taken before we boarded the car & decided to purchase as it was a nice picture of us both. Once back at the apartment at about 3pm we had no power & I was hungry so we walked down onto Victoria Road, the main strip in Camps Bay & headed to the bakery cafe where we’d been for tea before. They also had no power & their generator wasn’t working so I choose a tuna roll & sparkling water, Richard had a beer & helped me finish my roll as by this time it was 3.30pm. We walked back up the hill (in my case very slowly) it was really hot today, 37oc with no wind, the sea had been like a mill pond all day. We stopped at the continental food market to buy something for dinner & decided on a potato omelette as we had cheese, we purchased a tomato & spinach to add & a loaf of rye bread. It was a perfect dinner. I’d managed to get some washing done the previous afternoon when the power returned & did the same again today. We were both exhausted & were in bed by 8.30pm. No Netflix watching tonight!!
