Day 99: Digging!

Hot Water Beach, 11.18.2019

We left Auckland early on the Kiwi bus and headed out towards Hot Water Beach. We stopped on the way at Cathedral Cove where we did a walk down to the water front. The weather wasn't the best today, quite a bit of rain but luckily it stopped during our walk. As we walked along the beach front, we couldn't believe it but we saw a killer whale swim across the bay!! It was unbelievable and probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen because we were so close! We did the walk back up to the bus and then drove another 2 hours to Hot Water Beach. We spent a couple of hours at the beach digging up the sand to make pools of hot water. The geothermic activity at the centre of the earth was the reason for the water under the sand being so hot. Some of it was scalding, I couldn't believe how hot it was! After a while we walked back to the hostel. I really liked this hostel. It was more of a holiday park where a lot of families stayed and the rooms were so new and clean. In my room was James, Ellie, Alex, Gemma and Marissa. I cooked jacket potato and beans in the hostel kitchen for dinner.

A Trip of a Lifetime!
